Do whatever works for you! Are children enjoying the library? Well, that's one of the main ideas. To read, or not to read? Some libraries have storytime that no longer has stories! Instead, it's songs, dancing, music, and maybe some storytelling via felt board. Sometimes it's easier to pick out a book from the multitude of great options by deciding they all need to be about dinosaurs sometimes you just really want to read some new ones you just learned about. The choice is yours do you want all your books to be on the same topic, or just have a few books that you feel like reading that day? I've done it both ways, and it works both ways. To theme, or not to theme? That is the question. Now, everyone does storytime differently, and your ideas may vary wildly from what I do - and that's okay! These basics are here to give you a good jumping-off point, so you're not overwhelmed by the thought of having several small faces staring at you. Whether you're working in the Children's Department, subbing in there for a vacation, or maybe just thinking about becoming a librarian someday, it's always a good idea to have some storytime basics in your pocket, just in case you need them. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Auster 4 3 2 1![]() ![]() The new novel may sound like a high-concept, formally pyrotechnic book, yet Auster’s approach to his material is hardly out of the ordinary - he draws on his own life experience, tweaking details and outcomes as it suits him. ![]() Auster proves himself a master of navigating these worlds, and even though all might not happen for the best in any of them, it's an incredibly moving, true journey. Auster's writing is joyful, even in the book's darkest moments, and never ponderous or showy. Occasionally, Auster goes on a little too long - the novel is perhaps a bit longer than it needs to be.Nonetheless, it's a stunningly ambitious novel, and a pleasure to read. ![]() But he's a gifted observer, and his writing is so energetic, he makes it work. That's not because he's not a great writer, but he's never been known for his loquacity or long, flowing sentences before. There aren't many authors who could pull an 880-page novel like this off, and it's a little surprising that Auster manages to do it so well. He also gives each iteration a subtle self-awareness about their parallel existences. Auster wisely chooses not to make Ferguson a Forrest Gump-type character, implausibly present for every significant historical moment. Auster's novel is never boring, but it can get confusing, especially at the beginning of the book - readers will likely find themselves flipping back. ![]() ![]() ![]() The final confrontation between the Grand Deceiver and the Grand Reclaimer is set in motion, and Lady Helen’s story races towards a shocking conclusion full of passion, betrayal and heartbreak. ![]() Yet the very power and knowledge that Helen possesses is creating a rift in her mind and threatening to destroy her.Īs Helen tries desperately to juggle the demands of her double life and resist her feelings for Carlston, an old enemy arrives in Bath bringing death and destruction. We were all quite shocked that this book had been banned for its sex scenes, we couldn't see that they were all that shocking. Maybe it was easier to portray himself as such a person, wouldn't we all portray our best side if we wrote a novel about ourselves? It made us wonder how John Berendt managed to get so many people to open up with so many confidences while he himself seemed to be such a quiet character. It does seem very odd that so many unusual characters existed in such close proximity, maybe it's to do with the heat in Savannah, maybe it just attracts a certain type of inhabitant, but it certainly sounds like a very interesting place to live.
